Roofing Leadwork

Weatherproof & Watertight

Roof Renovation & Conservation

Lead has been used in roof construction for centuries. It lends itself perfectly to waterproofing roofs. Because of its malleability, it can be used to cover and seal any shape, is impervious to water, is highly resistant to corrosion and is non-combustible.

Roof leadwork is an old traditional craft, which still has modern applications for weatherproofing roof valleys, also used for flashing, and to cover porticos and flat roofs. In fact, it remains the most effective way to waterproof joints in roof construction, although there are manufactured imitation roofing products available.

Chris King Roofing has a team of experienced, qualified lead workers in Wiltshire who are registered with the LSTA (Lead Sheet Training Academy), accomplished in traditional lead bossing techniques and lead welding.

Our Wiltshire lead workers are in demand particularly for the renovation of heritage homes and conservation buildings where authenticity is key.

Leadwork Repair and Replacement

As durable and corrosion resistant as roof leadwork is, it is not totally infallible and can suffer damage which causes it to lose its weatherproofing properties.

The most common problems we see are corrosion caused by condensation from lack of air flow. Also lead fatigue, which is the stressing of the lead which can cause distortion and cracking over a period of time.

Most lead problems can be avoided if the lead sheet is installed correctly and carefully in the first place, but if you suspect that your roof lead has failed, our team can inspect and remedy the deterioration or replace the damaged leadwork so that water doesn’t penetrate into the roof and fabric of the building.
